Besides adding elegance to your home both bow and bay windows add some valuable space that can be used for larger plants, figurines, or as a well-lit sitting area in case it is a walk-out.

The Bay window is typically composed of three windows. The two side units (flankers) are normally either casement or hung windows, while the middle unit is a large fixed window. The side units of a bay window are normally projected at 45° or 30° angles, however other angles are available as well.

The bow window has a half-moon shape. It is composed of four or more equal-sized vinyl window units. One unit on each end of the bow window is normally a casement while the others are fixed windows, however, bow windows entirely comprised of fixed windows are also available.

All Aztech Performance Series window frames and sashes are constructed entirely from superior UPVC extruded profile. The frame and sash corners are fusion welded into a monolithic unit to provide a permanent seal against air and water penetration. Aztech Doors & Windows vinyl come in the optimal glossy shine which in the long run offers a more attractive appearance and allows for easier cleaning. Fusion welded corners together with multi-chambered frame and sash provide for maximum durability, insulation and security.

Our solid vinyl frames won’t rot or warp and are manufactured to specifications with highest of precision. All of our windows meet Canadian and USA standards. They are CCMC approved and conform to CAN/CSA-A440-98.

Triple Paned Glass

Triple glazing uses two Low-E panels and one Low Iron panel to reflect heat back into the home. Excellent choice for colder climates, like Canada.

LoĒ-i89

Excellent winter performance. It allows a high amount of visible light while reflecting heat back into the home.

LoĒ-180

Blocks 71% of sun’s UV rays, and allows 82% of visible light to pass through. Higher reflectivity of heat than LoĒ-i89 glass.

LoĒ-180ESC

A coating of silver, sandwiched between two anti-reflective metal oxide coatings which allows two panes of this type of glass to perform like a three pane window. Meets Energy Star 2020 requirements.

LoĒ²-272

Delivers year-round comfort. Reflects moderate amount of sun’s heat back into home during winter, and also rejects sun’s heat during summer for stability of indoor temperatures.

LoĒ³-366

The ultimate performance glass. A triple layer coating of LoĒ³-366 rejects 95% of UV rays, while maintaining the highest level of transparency.

Annealed Glass

Annealed glass is made using a slow cooling process to increase durability and prevent shattering. When it does break, it splits into sharp, irregular shaped pieces.

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass goes through a controlled thermal process in manufacturing to change its structure. When it breaks, it fractures into small harmless fragments with relatively rounded edges.

Laminated Glass

Laminated glass is composed of two or more layers of glass with an interlayer of plastic, providing resistance to shattering upon impact. When it breaks, the interlayer holds it together preventing fragment dispersal.

A brickmold casing serves as a decorative element and helps to seal the gap between the window or door frame and the adjacent wall surface, providing a finished look and weather resistance. The brickmold frame typically extends beyond the edges of the window or door frame. We craft our brickmolds from a durable uPVC powder compound that is designed to stand up to the harshest elements. This maintenance-free material is available in a variety of sizes and colours, for long-lasting curb appeal.

What is a bay window?

A bay window is a three sectioned window that bows outward. The center window is a picture window and on either side of the picture window is another style of window. The side windows are usually the same type of window. Bay windows are usually canted (angled/oblique line or surface particularly which cuts off a corner) at most commonly 15, 30 or 45 degrees.

What is a bow window?

A bow window is an arc-shape window structure with at least 4 windows that are usually fixed, or casement windows. They have all of the benefits of bay windows – more space, lots of use possibilities, great lighting, better view, and increased home value.

What is the difference?

The basic difference between bay windows & bow windows are how many sections each style of window has. Another difference is that bay windows consist of a picture window at the center with two different windows on both sides. A bow window uses the same style of window in each section, and the whole structure is rounded. You’ll see that bay windows have hard angled sections.

Wall size is an important consideration. Bay windows typically work best on large walls with at least 6.5 feet of space to spare. While it might be possible to order bay windows for smaller openings, packing so many individual windows into one tight area can look busy. These smaller walls would look more natural with a bay window. For very large window openings, bay windows can look out of place. For the window to avoid jutting out too far into the yard, the center pane would have to be very large. In these cases, a bow window’s gentle curve makes the most sense.

Pros and Cons for Bay and Bow windows?

Bay and Bow windows can be expensive to install, take up room in the area outside of the window, be difficult to find treatments for, and can be too small for anything useful except pots and plants. You will need some space and budget to utilize a bay or bow window.
However, both bay and bow windows increase square footage, add value to your house, increase natural light quite a bit, add ventilation, and can add various uses like a daybed, read nook, shelving, a cat’s watching spot, and more.

When is it a good idea for Bay or Bow windows?

Bow and bay windows are a good idea when you want to increase space, improve your view, improve your natural lighting, add to the look of the house, or create a space to be used for a specific reason – seating, accent a room, storage. Bow windows are a better idea than bay windows when you want more light, to make the room look larger than a bay window could, and have varying window pane sizes.

However, where budget is a concern, bay windows win head-to-head in every aspect. Bay windows are not only less expensive to purchase, but they typically also require less time to install, meaning the overall cost is lower than bow windows.

Are bay and bow windows harder to break into?

Bay and bow windows are very secure because they don’t open. The sections that do open are casements, which are also secure. In this regard, casement windows can be considerably harder to break into because of three key features:

The frame on a casement window is tightly sealed when it’s closed and latched.
Casement windows can only be opened from inside.
A casement window cannot be forced open from the outside, even with the help of a crowbar.
